What makes us truly happy?

What makes us truly happy?

The more you do what you want, the more you end up where you don’t want to be.

“Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure…”

—Ecclesiastes 2:10

Have you ever imagined yourself buying everything you want? Imagine that even when you travel to other countries, you can buy whatever you desire.

Solomon’s wealth was so great that he could buy whatever his eyes desired. There was nothing he could not afford. However, after all that he conquered and achieved, he came to the conclusion that all of it was vanity and a grasping for the wind, and that there was no profit under the sun (Ecclesiastes 2:11).

Solomon’s problem was that he was trying to find happiness in people and in things. And that is also the problem with many of us. We believe that if we achieve all our dreams, we will find happiness. But the truth is, we will not.

Maybe you come to church hoping and believing that you will have a better life when you get more money or when you get married. Indeed, you can be blessed and receive those things, but they will not give you true happiness. You will only be truly happy when you are filled with the Holy Spirit. And to receive the Holy Spirit, you need to surrender your soul on the altar and go through water baptism.

Water baptism symbolizes the burial of our will, our old self, and our old nature. We bury everything in the water—our past, the way we used to think, the way we used to act, our behavior, our sins, and our flaws. That is when we begin to seek the Holy Spirit.

Jesus died on the cross not for us to receive blessings, but for us to be saved. Our soul is eternal, and we have the power to choose whom we will give it to.
