What does it mean to depend on God?

“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.’”

Psalm 122:1

We have begun the purpose of committing ourselves to being in the House of God every Wednesday and every Sunday. The children of God gather every Wednesday for the Bible study to learn how to build a solid foundation of faith. Because faith must not be based on feelings but on the Word of God, which is the rock upon which we build our relationship with God.

Feelings come and go and can be deceptive, but the Word of God never changes. It is firmer than the ground beneath our feet, which may even shake sometimes, however, the Word of God is unshakable.

Sunday is the beginning of the week and is the day of the Lord. Being in the House of God on Sunday is also part of our tithe because we are giving to God what belongs to Him. But don’t do it simply to fulfill a religious obligation. You should come to the House of God because you understand that God is first in your life, because you want Him to guide you, and because you need to have a healthy relationship with Him.

The holy city of Jerusalem became the most important and beloved place because of the House of God. Jerusalem was so special in the days of David, not just because it was the capital of Israel, but because it was the place where the House of the Lord stood.

In Jerusalem were the thrones of the house of David, where the king’s throne stood. But there was also the heavenly throne—the heavenly authority and the thrones of judgment—because the House of God was there. So people would come to Jerusalem from all over Israel, seeking judgment, justice, and guidance. And that is what we come to seek when we come to the House of God. We come to seek guidance, justice, counsel, and direction.

People often depend on palm readers, soothsayers, fortune tellers, tarot readers, and horoscopes to know their future and what their lives will be like. But the Bible is accessible to all, and through it, we can know what God thinks and what brings us peace and prosperity.

Those who come to the Lord understand that God is the highest authority and has the last word in everything. You should not give anyone else the last word. Sometimes, God will put the right people in your path to help you, but they are not the last word. It is not wrong to ask for help from doctors, lawyers, bank managers, and other authorities, but you should not depend on them for your life. Your dependence must be on God.

When people say it is impossible and fail to help you, come to the Lord, come to the Altar, and plead for what you need in your life.

Moreover, those who belong to God become the House of God by receiving the Holy Spirit. And those who love God will never transfer their faith and trust from God to anyone else.

The question remains for you to think and reflect on: Do you depend on God, or is your life dependent on someone else?

I do not know what you've been through or what you are going through right now. I do not know about the challenges you are facing or the difficulties you are going through. But I know that if you learn how to depend on God above all else, regardless of what the lawyer says, the doctor says, the bank manager says, the psychologist says, the marriage counselor says, the teacher says, or whoever speaks—whoever occupies a position of authority—there is a higher authority.

And that is our God, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
