What does the devil need to do?

“But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, ‘Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.’ And Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.’” Luke 10:40-41

There are many people like Martha—worried and troubled about many things. They search for a way out, yet the true way out is found at the altar. When we make things right with God, our lives begin to be set right as well.

The devil doesn't need to destroy us; all he needs to do is distract us. He doesn't want us to listen to the Word of God, because if we listen, we will be free. The devil does not want us to be free; he wants us to remain bound to suffering.

Consider a spouse who becomes so distracted by work and friends that he or she fails to notice a marriage growing cold. There is little attention given to the family.

Consider a worker so distracted by bills and shopping that he does not realize how much money is being wasted or how quickly his bank account is being drained.

Consider a Christian distracted by social media, world affairs, and materialism who fails to see how weak his faith has become.

We need to make things right with God.

Think about it: all the devil needs to do is distract people.
