The UBB volunteers in Koronadal visited the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at Koronadal City District Jail last Tuesday, May 26.
On this visit, they learned about fear.
As human beings, we fear many things. We become afraid when someone threatens our life. We fear serious sicknesses, whether for ourselves or for our family. We fear the uncertainties and struggles that may happen in this world.
But according to the Word of God in the book of Matthew 10:28: “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
This verse reminds us who we should truly fear. We should not fear people who can harm only the body but have no power over the soul. Instead, we are called to fear God — not with terror, but with reverence, honor, and obedience.
This kind of fear means:
-Respecting God and His authority
-Avoiding sin and disobedience
-Desiring to live a life that pleases Him
Through the work of the UBB, many PDLs are experiencing the love, mercy, and power of God.
One inmate shared his testimony:
“The UBB has been a great help because here inside the jail, I came to know myself more and, above all, I came to know God. When I was still outside, I did not truly know God, and I did not even understand myself. But when I came here inside, I realized that God exists and that He is willing to help and guide me. Through this activity, my mind and heart were opened. It did not only teach me who I am as a person, but most importantly, it showed me the love and mercy of God. He gave me the opportunity to change, to have a new life, and to find true salvation.”
Volunteer Ammy Balbontin shared her experience:
“During the meeting, the PDLs were excited to attend and listen to the Word of God. They were focused and eager to learn, showing a sincere desire to change their lives and draw closer to God. It is truly a privilege for me to be part of this work. I have joy in doing this work and in preparing food for them.”
This work takes place every fourth Tuesday of the month. The UBB volunteers visit Koronadal City District Jail to fulfill the mission God has entrusted to us — sharing His Word, extending His love, and bringing hope to those behind bars.
