The Vow

“If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.” — Numbers 30:2

In marriage, the vows a husband and wife make to each other are meant to be kept. When a couple is faithful to God, they are also able to be faithful to one another, for our relationship with God is reflected in our relationships with others.

When you are faithful to God, you can also be faithful to your spouse. When you keep your word to God, you are more likely to keep your word to your partner.

The value of a marriage lies in the word. Many couples remain married legally, yet are separated in practice because they have not remained faithful to the promises they made.

If you cannot keep your word to God, you do not have a relationship with Him. Do not expect God to honor you if you do not honor Him. Keeping your word is also essential for those who desire to receive the Holy Spirit.

There are people who have been baptized in water but have not yet received the Holy Spirit because they have not remained faithful to the commitment they made. There are also those who refuse to be baptized in water because they do not want to renounce the ways of the world. If Jesus were to return, such people would be left behind.

Water baptism is your covenant with God, and the baptism with the Holy Spirit is God's covenant with you. When you receive the Holy Spirit, it is as though God places a ring on your finger, saying, "You are Mine, and you belong to Me."
