“…Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”
Matthew 6:9
This is the model prayer that Jesus taught us. It reveals a principle of both spiritual and material prosperity that many ignore: exalting the Creator before making any personal request.
It’s not meant to be recited mechanically, but a guide for how we should live. In its very first lines, Jesus teaches the principle of putting God first—what we can relate to as the “first fruits”—as seen in the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6 and Luke 11.
It reminds us that everything is from Him, through Him, and for Him. When we set aside the tithe from what we receive materially, as the Word teaches, we are practicing this principle. It is part of living a life that seeks to honor and exalt the Father above all.
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:10
The beginning of the Lord’s Prayer emphasizes God’s glory. Not because He needs it—since He is complete in Himself—but so that we may learn that what we want is not always what is best for us, but rather what God wills.
As a result of glorifying God first in our life, “our daily bread” becomes a promise of spiritual and material sustenance. First we do our part by honoring God in first place, and then He does His part by supplying our daily bread.
This Sunday, May 3 at 10am, will be the Sunday of “Our Father”. It will be a day to honor Him by presenting our first fruits—what belongs to Him first.
We invite you to bring a bread to be blessed, symbolizing dependence on God and recognition of His provision.
