Last Saturday, August 1, the Beat Depression team reached out to people passing along General Roxas Avenue, Araneta City. It's often impossible to tell who may be struggling with depression because emotional pain is frequently hidden behind a smile.
Using the 10 Symptoms of Depression, many participants reflected on their emotional well-being. Some recognized that they were experiencing several of these symptoms and received spiritual guidance, encouragement, and prayers to help strengthen them as they face life's challenges.
10 Symptoms of Depression
1. Constant frustration
2. Difficulty concentrating
3. Frequent mood swings or persistent discouragement
4. Tightness in the chest, emotional anguish, or sadness
5. Feeling inferior or incapable
6. Difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much
7. Eating excessively because of anxiety or losing your appetite
8. Losing interest in the things that once mattered to you
9. Feeling hopeless about the future
10. Recurring thoughts of suicide
Are you experiencing two or more of these symptoms? If so, you may be suffering from depression. Don't ignore what you're feeling—reach out for help and support.
Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Don't neglect what others cannot see, because a healthy mind is the foundation of a fulfilling life.
Many people spend hours at the gym, watch what they eat, invest in their appearance, and do everything they can to keep their bodies healthy. Yet they often overlook something equally important: their mental and emotional well-being.
Depression, stress, and anxiety may not always be visible, but their effects are real. Just as the body needs exercise and care, the mind also needs support and attention.
Seeking help is not a sign of weakness—it is a sign of courage.
If you or someone you know needs support, we're here to listen.
