The Concept of Inheritance

When we surrender our hearts and lives to Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us and bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Being a child of God means becoming an heir to everything God has promised and a joint heir with the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:16–17).

When a wealthy person dies, leaving behind money and properties, the rightful heirs will not be his servants, but it will be his children. This is the concept of inheritance. And the Bible reveals the inheritance God has prepared for His children.

Not everyone has a claim to God's inheritance. It belongs to those who are children of God. And not everyone is a child of God. Adam and Eve were created by God, but they were not His children. A child of God is born, “not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:13)

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” — John 1:12

We become born of God when we receive the Spirit of God, for He conceives in us a child of God. And that’s when we have access to the inheritance.

A testament comes into effect upon the death of the one who made it. In the same way, the death of the Lord Jesus Christ secured our access to the inheritance promised to us. Through His death, we have been given the right to receive everything God has prepared for His children.

“And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.”

John 8:35

We carry a natural inclination to do what is wrong, and this is our flaw. But the Holy Spirit corrects that. We are all slaves to sin until we are born again.

We all fail. We all have bad thoughts, we judge others, and sometimes we say things we should not say. None of us are perfect. But when the Holy Spirit dwells in us, He transforms our hearts and enables us to live in holiness. We receive a new nature and a new heart, and one day, we will be resurrected to live forever with Jesus.

The Bible is your testament. Everything that is written there is for the children of God. That includes good health, family, prosperity, peace, and, above all, the salvation of your soul. You don’t need to run after blessings because when you become a child of God, you will have the right to everything that is written in God’s Word.
