Why should we be concerned about evil?

God created the angels, but some of them rebelled against Him, leading to a war in heaven (Revelation 12:7–9). The conflict that began in heaven came down to the earth, where the devil works to kill, steal, and destroy.

How do we protect ourselves against the works of the devil?

We can protect ourselves against the work of the devil by obeying the Word of God. Lucifer, once an angel of light, led a rebellion against God and was no longer allowed to remain in heaven. In the same way, we must not give the devil any place in our lives.

“Nor give place to the devil.” — Ephesians 4:27

How do we give place to the devil?

We give place to the devil by living in sin. Sin opens the door for the devil to influence our lives. Some people live in lies, deceit, promiscuity, and dishonesty, while others allow envy and resentment to fill their hearts. These attitudes and behaviors give the devil a foothold in their lives.

Some may even attend church but engage in harmful behaviors, such as gossiping, which can lead to anger, jealousy, and bitterness in their hearts.

Satan seeks to gain a foothold in our lives through thoughts and feelings that lead us to act in the wrong way. That is why we must reject evil and remove anything from our lives that draws us away from God.

This is why having the Holy Spirit within us is so important. When the devil encounters someone who has the Holy Spirit, he encounters a life illuminated by the presence of God. Without the Holy Spirit, a person is like an empty house that can be invaded at any time—a space the devil seeks to occupy.

It is not enough to be healed, prosperous, blessed in our marriage, or to have a good place to live. Above all, we need the Holy Spirit.

The Bible describes Satan as the ruler of this world, working in ways that are not always immediately apparent. We can see the influence of evil in different areas of society, including art, music, television dramas, politics, the financial world, and even religion.

Religion was created to keep people away from the Truth. God does not want us to follow religious practices; He wants us to know Him through His Word. True freedom comes from hearing, understanding, and putting the Word of God into practice.

Do not give place to the devil. Be obedient to the Word of God. Seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
