What makes someone eligible to receive the Holy Spirit?

“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:1-4

For you to receive the Holy Spirit, there is not a long list of requirements. There is only one thing you must do—to give your heart to God. It is not about giving your tithe or financial offering, for God does not desire your money, house, properties, or other possessions. The only thing God truly wants from you is your heart.

Simply coming to church, being a good Christian, doing charity, or trying to be a good person is not enough to receive God’s grace. If you do not give your heart fully to Him, you cannot receive the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is at the altar, waiting for anyone who is willing to give his or her life completely to Him—to have no other god above Him and to place faith fully in Him. There can be no happy marriage if a couple is divided. In the same way, there can be no true relationship with God if your heart is divided.

If you put a little bit of your faith in Jesus, in Mary and in Joseph, you cannot have the Holy Spirit. Only Jesus Christ saves, because He is the Son of God who came into the world and died on the cross for our sins.

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” John 14:6

You need to give your all to Jesus. Put Him first above parents, wife, husband, children, career, money and yourself, so He will come and live in you.
