Unisocial in Cebu

Updated: Nov 14

Last week, the province of Cebu was struck by the devastating typhoon Tino that left many families suffering tremendous loss, particularly in Talisay. Countless homes were destroyed, properties were washed away, and tragically, some people lost their loved ones. The pain of losing everything in a single moment is beyond words — yet, even in the midst of such sorrow, we know that God has not forgotten His people.

The Simbahang Universal came together in unity and faith to reach out to those affected. Our mission was to extend not only physical help but also the spiritual comfort and hope that only the Lord Jesus can provide. Through the generosity of our members and their compassionate support, we were able to reach and help more than 200 families impacted by the typhoon.

We distributed food and essential supplies, but our mission went far beyond material aid. We shared words of faith, encouragement, and hope — reminding each one of them that even in the challenging moments, God’s love and mercy remain constant. Many also had the opportunity to hear the message of salvation and to experience the power of God’s Word in their lives.

“We didn’t know that we would be affected by the flood because we had never experienced anything like this before. I was only able to grab my phone as the water was rising very quickly. I am so blessed and thankful to God because through this work, He has provided what we needed,” shared Marilou, one of the affected residents.

Another survivor also expressed her gratitude for receiving hope, encouragement, and grace during such a hopeless time. Though they are currently homeless, she said they have received new strength — strength to endure, and to seek their salvation above all else. In that moment, she even thought that perhaps it was already the end of the world.

Everything we do for those in need, we do for the Lord Himself, just as Jesus taught us in the Scriptures:

‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’— Matthew 25:40 (NKJV)

Ligaya, one of the volunteers, shared: “Our goal was not only to provide physical help but also to share spiritual support through the Word of God. It was a great day for me because I had the opportunity to serve. After everything, I truly saw how they were strengthened — and seeing their smiles renewed my own soul.”

We are saved to save others. Let us never stop reaching out, sharing the love of God, and doing the work that He has called us to do. Together we can continue the work of the Lord Jesus, which is to reach out to those who are suffering and bring them hope and salvation.
