UniSocial at the Universal Church in Davao

A massive fire razed approximately 150 houses in a coastal residential area in Purok 4, Barangay 23-C, Davao City, on Friday night, May 8, affecting more than 200 families who lost their homes.

The Universal Church in Davao had the honor of conducting the Unisocial event at Zonta Elementary School on May 12, 2026 at 5pm, which serves as one of the temporary evacuation sites. Many individuals received a hot meal, along with a word of faith, prayers and spiritual advice to provide support to the affected families. For we know that in times like this, many people lose hope and wonder how to begin again.

The majority of the attendees were Badjao, an indigenous ethnic group. Although communication was challenging due to their unique language, they received assistance from their fellow community members, which helped us in organizing and supporting them.

"I am very sad to spend Mother's Day without a home. It is difficult to be here amidst the noise and lack of peace, but I am grateful to God and the Universal Church for providing us with food; the food and the prayer really help us”, a mother shared her sadness about what happened and her gratefulness for our support.

“It was my first time witnessing this situation and helping those who were victims of the fire. It was really difficult for them. Despite the communication barriers, they made efforts to understand, and they were immensely grateful.” — Margie Bermudo, one of the volunteers shared.

The Unisocial aims to reach out and help those in need not only physically, but also spiritually by speaking to them about God, who gives them strength and hope to overcome.
