The Lord’s Supper of Gethsemane
The moment of Jesus’ deepest surrender took place in Gethsemane, a place that symbolizes the ultimate renunciation of His own will.
There, being under deep pressure and facing the hardest choice of His life, He prayed, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me.” But right after that, He accepted God’s will and said, “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:39) In this short but powerful moment, we see Jesus’ human fear and His perfect obedience to God—an obedience that would save the humanity.
This moment of surrender didn’t come out of nowhere. It was prepared during the Lord’s Supper, when Jesus thanked God and shared the cup with His disciples. He explained that the wine represented His blood—the blood of a new covenant that would be poured out for many people, for the remission of sins. (Matthew 26:27-28)
The Lord’s Supper is a way to renew our connection with God and strengthen our covenant with Him – a covenant that every child of God sacrifices to keep until the end. In the same way, everyone also needs to make sacrifices to keep their relationship with God strong.
Because of this, Gethsemane represents more than just a place in history—it reminds us of the importance of trusting God even when things are difficult.
Join us this coming Sunday, December 14 at 10am, in the Lord’s Supper of Gethsemane. A day to go up on the Altar to surrender our own will so the will of God will be done in our lives.
