From May 3rd to 24th, the “Fast of Daniel” will take place—a 21-day period dedicated to hearing God’s voice and seeking the presence of the Holy Spirit.
What is the Fast of Daniel?
It is a time for those who want to draw closer to God, based on the purpose set forth by the prophet Daniel (Daniel 1 and 10).
For three weeks, Daniel fasted to seek God, gaining favor, wisdom, and understanding. He avoided foods that were pleasurable or associated with Babylon—a symbol of the sinful world. Although he lived in a place of spiritual impurity, he did not belong to it in mindset, diet, or behavior.
In the same way, we live in this world, which is contrary to God’s nature, yet we are strangers and pilgrims on the earth (1 Peter 2:11), only passing through.
Why should you do the Fast of Daniel?
If you want to live with God for all eternity, why not start being a citizen of Heaven right here on Earth?
How can a person say they want to live in the Kingdom of God if, in the present time, they live far from that ideal?
The salvation of our soul is a consequence of the decisions we make during our life in this body of flesh and blood. After that, the destiny of our soul will come (which, unlike the perishable body, will last forever): Heaven or condemnation.
Thus, the Fast of Daniel is, above all, a period of self-evaluation so that one may reflect on their spiritual condition, abandon practices and mindsets contrary to God’s Word, and draw closer to God. In other words, it is to continue on the constant path of sanctification.
To achieve this, we silence the voices of this world – which can be found in the news, on social media, and in so many other noisy places. In the desert, it is only the voice of God and our conscience.
As it says in 1 John 4:3, “And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.”
What is the objective?
The main purpose is to receive the Holy Spirit or maintain Him inside of us (1 Corinthians 6:19).
The Word of God says:
"Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?" (Amos 3:3)
So how can He dwell within us if we disagree with Him?
Therefore, the Holy Spirit lives in those who are submissive to His voice, those who put Him first in their lives. For this, it is necessary to "clean His house," to be sincere before God and, if necessary, to build His altar within oneself, stone by stone.
The 21-days Fast of Daniel serves that purpose.
Therefore, the Fast of Daniel is an opportunity for you to draw closer to God and begin a new life with Him or to maintain the relationship you already have with Him.
Step-by-step guide on how to do the Fast of Daniel:
First, for 21 days, you must abstain from entertainment, music, and secular news. These are contents that distract us from our purpose, which is to hear God’s voice. Just as Daniel did not eat delicacies and desirable foods and abstained from the Babylonian mentality, you will stop consuming this type of content, which is pleasurable to your flesh.
Replace those activities with ones that will help you achieve your goal. Connect with God, read the Bible more, and fill yourself with Christian content that can nourish your faith.

Is the Fast of Daniel a fast for food?
Although the prophet Daniel also observed a dietary restriction, we must not lose sight of the central objective of what he did: the pursuit of communion with God and detachment from the world. More than a physical fast, this was a spiritual fast.
Therefore, it is necessary to understand what this purpose actually means.
Nowadays, when "information" is so valuable (we even pay for it with money and our time), doesn't it also become a kind of "food" for our soul? Therefore, an "information fast" is a type of fasting.
The goal is for your soul to be nourished with what comes from above- God’s Word.
