Month of Honor

Many people understand the concept of justice, but when it comes to honor, they may not have a clear understanding of what it means to honor someone.

“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am the Father, where is My honor? And if I am a Master, where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts to you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’”  — Malachi 1:6

During the time of the prophet Malachi, the people of Israel had fallen into spiritual coldness and apostasy. They had turned away from God and stopped honoring Him through their tithes and offerings. As a result, they experienced drought, poverty, and hardship.

What makes the difference is not simply how we pray, but whether we honor God through the way we live.

We understand that everything we have, everything we are and everything we hope to be, comes from God. When we return to God the first 10% of what we receive, we are being fair, just, and we are fulfilling our duty. Malachi 3:10-11 also reminds us of God's promise to rebuke the devourer and bless those who are faithful in their tithes.

This month of November, will be the Month of Honor. Where people will have the opportunity to honor God through their tithes and offerings.

“But now the Lord says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.’” — 1 Samuel 2:30

Returning our tithes and giving our offerings to God as expressions of gratitude should not be done out of mere obligation or with complaints, but willingly and sincerely from the heart.

Let us honor God in our lives, not only through our tithes and offerings but also through our obedience to His Word.
